Publish names of baptized
by S. Roy Kaufman, Freeman, S.D.
In regard to the articles on baptism in the November 2011 issue: Why isn't the entry of a person into the realm of God through baptism worthy of being recognized by the wider church?
Ever since we lived in Canada for some years and having read the Canadian Mennonite since that time, I’ve wondered why we don’t follow the example of our northern brothers and sisters and publish names, dates and congregations of those baptized in Mennonite Church USA congregations. It may not be the same as having our names written in the Book of Life, but there is something significant about publicly and widely naming those who have made baptismal vows of allegiance to God in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit.
