Goshen students to offer relief aid in Peru
by Goshen CollegePrint Article Email to a Friend
GOSHEN, Ind.—A group of Goshen College students left for a Study-Service Term in Peru on Aug. 30.
Peru was struck by a magnitude-8 earthquake on Aug. 15. Duane Stoltzfus and Karen Sherer Stoltzfus, with their daughters Kate and Emily, are leading the unit to Peru.
The Stoltzfuses were already in the country preparing for students to arrive when the disaster struck, but though they felt the two-minute earthquake, they were all safe.
Lima is about 125 miles northwest of the center of destruction of the earthquake—the city of Ica in Peru’s southern desert and the nearby port city of Pisco.
The Stoltzfuses have been in touch with people involved in the relief and clean-up efforts, and are looking for possible ways to be of assistance in future months.—Goshen College
