First Snow of the Season

As time lapses over my hour
on the train to work,
I watch the first snow
snatch and catch in crevices and corners
of sidewalks, El platforms
and grass in vacant lots.
Flake by flake, layer by layer,
tiny yet incorrigible,
it winds and finds it way to lay between
Loop Towers and Pilsen three flats
alike.
Asphalt, concrete, steel and brick:
hard edges worn down for a few hours
by high, wild bustling beauty.
